About Stavros

Stavros Choplaros is a Cypriot composer and educator whose music explores transformative borrowing and recontextualisation through a polystylistic language that reshapes classical, traditional, and contemporary materials. He holds a PhD in Music Composition from King’s College London and an MM in Composition from California State University, Long Beach, completed with Fulbright support, and has taught university-level music courses. His works have been performed internationally, and he also composes for interdisciplinary contexts including theatre, dance, installation, and film. His postdoctoral research project, Reimagining Cypriot Musical Borrowing: Fresh Approaches to Tradition in 21st-Century Composition, received internal funding from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT/TEPAK) through the 2025 «ΜΕΤΑΔΙΔΑΚΤΩΡ» Programme. Most recently, he was commissioned by the Pharos Contemporary Music Festival to create a new work for Ensemble Klang Systematiek.

A darkened studio environment showcasing electroacoustic composition tools: a modular synthesizer with patch cables in vibrant colors, a laptop displaying spectral analysis, and a surround array of compact, high-end speakers forming a semicircle around a central control surface. Subtle LED lights from equipment cast colored glows on matte black surfaces, while a single overhead spot creates focused pools of light on the control desk, leaving the background in soft shadow. A printed graphic score and a pair of nearfield microphones rest to one side. Photographic realism, shot from a low, slightly tilted angle to enhance depth and complexity, conveys an experimental yet meticulously controlled atmosphere ideal for interdisciplinary and electroacoustic work.
